The origin, nature and objectives of UNESCO's General information programme - PGI - are reminded and the priorities for the next triennum outlined.The ways and means by which the Member States could participate in PGI are presented. It is advocated that their active participation is not only possible but much is a necessity and the very basix for PGI's planning, implementation and evaluation. A summary account is given of recent and planned acttivities of I related to the buiding up or strengthening of national information copabilities and to the improvement and broadening of interaction and compatibility between national and international systems
