<br/><br/> The main objective of this work was to investigate in a structured manner, the  characteristics of the Matrix Structure in selected industrial research and development institutions. A set of factors was designed to facilitate a measurement of these characteristics, and a simple field research was undertaken. As a result, it was possible to indicate some of the reasons that make Matrix Structure a highly useful organizational form for R&D work, particularly in actual situation of this field in the national context. Finally, some propositions were pointed aut for future investigation
