520 3 _aProblems in developing countries are invariably not always the same as those in the advanced countries. It is suggested that the main reason for the slow pace of development in scientific and technological areas is the fact that there is no organised and co-ordinated national system for the use of scientific information. Although a country that is technologicaly backward has to keep abreast of recent developments in various parts of the world in order to utilise effectively information availlable elsewhere, at the same time however, it has to collect and disseminate local scientifi c information for promoting the economic growth of the country. Duplication of efforts in researc h can also be avoided if scientific information is properly harnesed, and this can save developing countries from wasteful spending of scarce resources
